Over 560 LGBTQ critics have nominated the best in TV and streaming series this month with the 2026 GALECA Dorian TV Awards nominationss. The documentary side includes two categories: one covering the full range of TV/streaming and the other devoted exclusively to docs with a queer focus. Both categories encompass features and series.
Nominees for Best LGBTQ TV Documentary or Documentary Series include Ally Pankiw’s music doc Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery. The film chronicles the history of the women-fuelled concert series headlined by Sarah McLachlan in the 1990s. The documentary joins an overall strong showing for Canadian content, as the hit drama series Heated Rivalry scored seven nominations including Best TV Drama.
Other LGBTQ feature doc nominees include Jeffrey McHale’s It’s Dorothy! and Zackary Drucker’s Enigma, while the series Club Cumming and Murder in Glitterball City round out the category. The overall doc category leans heavily on series with only one feature, Selena y Los Dinos scoring a nomination, while Kylie, Mr. Scorsese, Seen & Heard: The History of Black Television, and The Yogurt Shop Murders make a strong showing for episodic works.
The comedy series Hacks leads the field overall with eight nominations including Best TV Comedy and citations for star Jean Smart and nearly half the supporting field. Winners will be announced on August 15.
