Mel Brooks: The 99-Year-Old Man! leads the documentary nominees for this year’s Emmy Awards. The doc highlights another slate that’s heavy on the celebrity bios, as the portrait of the veteran comic was in good company with fellow nominees John Candy: I Like Me and Marty: Life Is Short. The Brooks doc scored six nominations, while the films about Candy and Short earned five and three nominations, respectively.
Also earning multiple nominations were Mariska Hargitay’s My Mom Jayne, her personal exploration of her family in the wake of the death of her mother, actress Jayne Mansfield, and Rebecca Miller’s study of Martin Scorsese’s dramatic oeuvre in the series Mr. Scorsese. Sean Combs: The Reckoning also scored a trio of nominations for its true crime look at the fallen music icon.
