The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal Dominates Canadian Screen Award Doc Winners

Hip series sweeps the field

9 mins read

The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal dominated the Canadian Screen Award winners of the documentary, factual, lifestyle, and reality awards last night. The ceremony honouring the best in broadcast non-fiction during Canadian Screen Week gave a clean sweep to the four part Prime Video series about the Hip. No Dress Rehearsal won all seven categories in which it was nominated—a leader in the documentary side of the awards. It picked up honours including Best Biography or Arts Documentary Program or Series and Best Direction, Documentary Series for Mike Downie. The prize for Best Direction, Documentary Program went to Ben Addelman and Ziya Tong for Plastic People.

And in a win for what many consider a top prize of the evening, the Donald Brittain Award for Best Social/Political Documentary Program went to “Contract to Kill” by Raj Ahluwalia and Allya Davidson for The Fifth Estate.

The documentary winners in the film categories will be announced tonight.
