Beautiful Scars takes the lead in the Hot Docs Audience Award race. The film directed by Shane Belcourt is a raucous yet moving portrait of rocker Tom Wilson. Beautiful Scars adapts Wilson’s memoir of the same name and looks back at his career in music, playing with bands like Junkhouse and Blackie and the Rodeo Kings, his discovery of his Mohawk identity, and his journey reconnecting with his mother and his roots. The film’s debut in the top spot marked the fourth consecutive day in which a Canadian film sat in the lead. Previous leader Batata fell to ninth place after holding the #1 slot for two days, while early leader Okay! (The ASD Band) moved up to eighth. Debuting in second place for the Rogers Audience Award for Canadian film, meanwhile, is Sean Stiller’s Returning Home, which entered the chart in seventh overall.
