Run Terry Run Trailer Spotlights a Canadian Hero’s Courage

Film debuts at TIFF ahead of October release

Canadian hero Terry Fox returns to capture the collective imagination in Run Terry Run. Elevation Pictures released the trailer for the documentary today, which revisits Fox’s iconic 1980 run across Canada to raise awareness for cancer research. The film has its festival premiere in September at the Toronto International Film Festival and hits theatres October 9.

Directed by Sean Menard (299 Queen Street West), Run Terry Run offers an all-archival account of Fox’s heroic effort. The film draws upon footage shot for an early CBC documentary about Fox’s campaign, interviews, and behind-the-scenes material that takes audiences into the van that accompanied Terry as he ran home to Vancouver after starting out in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Audio accounts from participants including Fox’s brother, Darrell, and friend Doug Alward, both of whom rode in the van alongside him throughout the journey, as they speak to the resilience and courage that inspired a nation.

The documentary offers many never-seen-before images of one of Canada’s most recognizable figures and Run Terry Run tells how Fox helped bring a nation together when political winds sought to divide Canadians. Fox’s spirit continues in many iterations of the Marathon of Hope, which has raised over one billion dollars for cancer research.
