Jim Henson: Idea Man leads the documentary and nonfiction contenders in this year’s Emmy nominations. The Television Academy announced the full list of Emmy nominations this morning with Ron Howard’s portrait of the beloved Muppet man netting a whopping eight nominations. Idea Man, which premiered at Cannes before debuting on Disney+, scored a nomination in every category in which it was a contender. Other feature-length documentaries in the running include Girls State, The Greatest Night in Pop, Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, and the three nominees for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking: Beyond Utopia, Stamped from the Beginning, and Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project.
Other docs in contention include the two-parter Steve Martin doc Steve! and series including Beckham, The Jinx: Part Two, Planet Earth III, and STAX. Winners will be announced in September.
