Review: ‘Check It’
Check It (USA, 91 min.) Dir. Dana Flor and Toby Oppenheimer Programme: World Showcase (International Premiere) For a movie about impoverished black kids in Washington D.C., there’s plenty of joy in Check It. The doc follows gay and lesbian kids who form a gang to protect themselves. “Gay and black,” says an adult, “they’re in a world of their own.” Check It is no toy gang; members fight hardcore, and we see them doing it.
