19 feature documentaries will screen at this year’s CUFF.Docs. The Calgary Underground doc festival revealed the complete line-up for its 2021 edition today. CUFF.Docs returns to in-theatre screenings after a year of COVID-related closures shifted events online.

This year’s CUFF.Docs opens with Dominique Keller’s NFB doc Love: The Last Chapter. The film is a tender observation of love in the golden years. Keller offers an immersive portrait in a seniors’ home that captures the love lives of the elderly.

“Through CUFF.Docs we look to bring in a selection of documentaries that entertain and challenge audiences,” said CUFF Lead Programmer Brennan Tilley in a statement from the festival. “Along with the best of the year’s documentary releases, we include innovative selections that push boundaries of form, subject matter and style. We have films that reconnect us with old friends and others that our audience will not find anywhere else.”

Also screening at the festival is the film-on-film odyssey Kurt Vonnegutt: Unstuck in Time, directed by Don Argott. Audiences looking for a warm bowl of noodles will find comfort in Come Back Anytime, directed by John Daschbach. Dear Mr. Brody is the latest work from Tower directed Keith Maitland, while Adam Brooks profiles Winnipeg artist Cliff Eyland in Cliff: Portrait of an Artist.

CUFF.Docs also offers a hybrid component this year, which includes additional online streams of shorts for viewers who prefer to watch at home. All in-theatre screenings will follow health and safety protocols that include reduced capacity, proof of vaccination or recent test result (72 hours), and masking.
