Rabin: In His Own Words

Practically a history of Israel in the latter half of the twentieth century told through one man, Rabin: In His Own Words uses extensive archival material, from home movies to letters, to convey an “autobiography” of the late two-time Israeli Prime Minister and Nobel Peace Prize recipient. It is an impressively well-put-together, comprehensive historical documentary that outlines the life of one of Israel’s most respected, and yet most derided, political leaders.
The most interesting part of the film for me was the section about creating stability between Israel and Palestine. The Rabin quote that stuck out was, “The road to peace is not easy. There is no other alternative.” Unfortunately, many close-minded Israelis, who may have been culpable for his assassination on November 5, 1995, derided his message. Fortunately, Rabin’s legacy for peace in the Middle East lives on in this respectfully and tautly made documentary appreciation.
