Celebrate the career of one of Canada’s most significant filmmakers with Alanis Obomsawin: A Legacy. Now available from the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), this definitive 12-disc set offers the largest collection on Obomsawin’s work released on DVD. The collection, which is curated by Obomsawin herself and features a full-colour booklet with an introduction by programmer Jason Ryle, is now available to own via nfb.ca/alanislegacy. The collection spans Obomsawin’s career from her first film with the NFB, Christmas at Moose Factory (1971) to her most recent body of work that examines the rights of Indigenous children in films like We Can’t Make the Same Mistake Twice (2016) and Jordan River Anderson, The Messenger (2019).
Alanis Obomsawin: A Legacy offers Obomsawin’s films in English and French with some Cree versions. The collection also includes the world premieres of four docs by Obomsawin, making this collection of the prolific filmmaker a true must-own. New docs in the collection are The Spirit of the Tsilqot’in People Is Hovering over the Supreme Court (2023), Wabano: The Light of the Day (2022), Don Burnstick in Kattawapiskak (2021), and Theo Fleury Visits Kattawapiskak (2021).
