Win Tickets to see ‘Sick’ at Redezvous with Madness!
Toronto’s Rendezvous with Madness Film Festival investigates misperceptions and mythologies surrounding mental illness and addiction. Central to this conversation is the role of images and how people with addictions and mental illness live day by day with their conditions. One of the documentaries screening at RWM this year is the Croatian doc Sick by Hrvoje Mabic. POV is proud to co-present this screening and thanks to our friends at Rendezvous with Madness we have two pairs of tickets to give away to the screening. Answer the trivia below to win tickets!
Synopsis: When she was sixteen, Ana was committed to a Croatian psychiatric institution by her parents. Why? Ana is gay, which to her family meant she must be insane. After five years of harrowing treatment to ‘cure’ her, Ana was released with PTSD, suicidal ideation, anger management issues and an obsessive determination to make the people subjected her to such treatment accountable for their actions. This is Ana’s story, told in an intimate and powerful documentary that will resonate with anyone who has been made to feel somehow defective for their sexual identity or pushed to the limits of sanity in the name of being ‘normal’.
Following the screening, there will a panel and discussion about the film.
