Watch Barbara Kopple’s Master Class from the TIFF Doc Conference!

By Pat Mullen

In case you weren’t able to attend the TIFF Doc Conference at this year’s festival, you missed an excellent conversation with Barbara Kopple, the great director of films like Harlan County, USA and Miss Sharon Jones!. Kopple’s latest film, Desert One, ranks among her best work and it premiered at the festival on Monday to an enthusiastic reception for its story of the Iranian hostage crisis and the heroes who participated in a mission that tried to bring them home. Kopple spoke at length with TIFF Docs programmer Thom Powers about her process with Desert One, interviewing Jimmy Carter, and navigating the worlds of archive and verité.

Stay tuned for our review of the film and interview with Kopple, but in the meantime you can stream the extended conversation from the Doc Conference below.
