‘The Other Side of Everything’ Leads IDFA Winners

The Other Side of Everything

By Pat Mullen

Mila Turajlic’s The Other Side of Everything leads the winners of IDFA 2017. The co-production between Serbia, France, and Qatar scored the Dutch festival’s top prize of Best Feature Length Documentary and netted € 15,000. Turajlic’s film about a subdivided apartment in Belgrade offers a powerful metaphor for a divided nation. Back at TIFF, we called it “an interesting and heartfelt film.”

Rober Dosky received the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Documentary Stipend, which offers a purse of € 50,000 thanks to an anonymous donation administered by Cultuurfonds. Dosky’s docs include The Sniper of Kobani, Radio Kobanî, and Meryem. Other winners included Simon Lereng Wilmont for Best Feature-Length Documentary and Ieva Ozolina received a Special Jury Award for First Appearance in memory of late filmmaker and POV editor Peter Wintonick.
