Updates for Telefilm Canada Theatrical Documentary Program
By Pat Mullen
Telefilm Canada announced today several updates for the Theatrical Documentary Program. New for Telefilm’s 2019-2020 fiscal year is the news that the funder increased financial participation to $150,000 (from $125,000). The amount covers a maximum of 49% of the Canadian budget. The announcements were made via an industry advisory from Telefilm Canada.
The application window for the Theatrical Documentary Program opens November 25, 2019. It closes December 9, 2019.
Other updates include a new allocation for funding for projects from Indigenous communities with two of three key creative roles (producer, director or screenwriter) filled by Indigenous talent. These projects may apply in the Indigenous Stream of the program.
Today’s update also marks the end of the partnership between Telefilm Canada and the Rogers Group of Funds for the Theatrical Documentay Program. The Rogers Group of Funds was a partner on the fund for 12 years and supported several of the most notable Canadian docs produced in that period including Sharkwater, Anthropocene, The Amina Profile, and The World Before Her.
