Last week, we shared the sad news that Pepita Ferrari, documentary filmmaker and former executive director of the Documentary Organization of Canada, died over the winter holidays. In recognition of her contribution to documentary, the National Film Board of Canada has relaunched the online interactive companion piece to her documentary Capturing Reality. The film and its interactive component feature some of the biggest names in documentary as Ferrari’s interviews with Alanis Obomsawin, Jennifer Baichwal, Werner Herzog, Errol Morris, Patricio Guzm├ín, and Heddy Honnigman, just to name a few, provide deep conversations about the art of non-fiction filmmaking. The online component of the doc expands upon these interviews and offers all sorts of snippets that didn’t make the final cut. It’s an expansion of the “deleted scenes” bonus in a new form that explored new terrain in documentary filmmaking while reflecting on the art itself.

Explore Capturing Reality here at the NFB and read more about the project in Ferrari’s article on the doc and watch the film below.
