Our friends at the DOC Institute are wrapping up their 2014 Masters Class series with one of Canada’s most experimental filmmakers, Peter Mettler.

From their website: “Reflecting on a 30-year career, Mettler will speak to the art of improvisation in documentary filmmaking. Mettler will discuss his strategies for preparing for the unexpected and how he’s developed his instincts in the editing suite. Alternating between clips, conversation and practical advice, this master class will provide participants with insights into the working methods and philosophy of this truly singular filmmaker. The class will be moderated by writer José Teodoro, who’s currently working on a book about Mettler’s films.” Tickets can be purchased here.

Not familiar with Mettler’s work? He’s been profiled and interviewed in POV over the course of his career, most recently in 2012 on the release of The End of Time. Read that profile here. For a longer, in-depth look at Mettler’s career up to 2009 (the year Petropolis was released), check out this interview.
