‘Maxima’ Holds Lead as Canadian Titles Go Dark in Hot Docs Race

By Pat Mullen

Maxima holds the lead in the Hot Docs race. After returning to the top spot in yesterday’s update, the film holds strong at #1. Claudia Sparrow’s film screens again on Saturday while the race’s rising contender Willie has its third screening this morning. Gods of Molenbeek makes its Top 20 debut coming in fourth, while the bottom end of the list holds steady as top contenders duke it out.

Also notable is the return of the masking the Canadian contenders for the Rogers Audience Award. The guessing game will keep audiences in suspense of what they’re seeing when the winner is announced at an encore screening at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema at 7:00 PM on Sunday, May 5. As of yesterday, Prey and Willie were leading the Canadian race with Shella Record, Our Dance of Revolution, and Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind rounding out the top five.
