The race is officially on for Best Documentary Feature! The International Documentary Association (IDA) released today the shortlists for best feature doc and best short doc for the 2020 IDA Awards. The feature documentary list includes 30 docs representing 21 countries, while the shorts list offers 15 films from six countries. Among the shortlisted features are the Canadian docs Wintopia by Mira Burt-Wintonick and The Forbidden Reel by Ariel Nasr, along with the Kenyan-Canadian doc Sofite directed by Sam Soko. Many presumed Oscar frontrunners are on the list including Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Boys State and Audience Award winner Crip Camp. Romania’s Oscar submission for Best International Feature, Collective, also looks to be gaining heat ahead of its November release with hopes to repeat Honeyland’s sucess as a double nominee.
