Hot Docs announces nineteen titles that will compete in the annual Hot Docs Forum at this year’s festival. The projects are a range of Canadian and international productions from 19 countries. “We want to congratulate this year’s incredibly diverse projects, which showcase a plethora of unique topics and extraordinary protagonists for the consideration of the community of decision makers,” says Hot Docs industry programmer and Forum producer Dorota Lech in a statement from the festival. The event is a keystone in the North American industry for developing documentary films and fostering new talents.
For the eighth consecutive year, the Shaw Media-Hot Docs Funds Hot Docs Forum Pitch Prize will be awarded to the best Canadian pitch. The winner receives $10,000 to develop, produce, and complete his or her project.
Additionally, The Cuban Hat Award returns to the Forum and aims to raise money over the two days of the event. Winners will be determined by ballot. The Entertainment One Mounties’ Hat Pitch, finally, gives Hot Docs Forum observers the chance to secure a last minute presentation slot during the event via draw.
