Hot Docs announced today ten international delegations and three Canadian delegations for its 2019 festival, conference, and market. This year’s industry component of Hot Docs, North America’s largest documentary festival, will feature representatives from Bermuda (Wishing Step Pictures), Chile (ChileDoc), Europe (European Film Promotion aka EFP), Germany (AG DOK), Italy (Italian Trade Commission), Japan (Tokyo Docs), the Nordic Region (Nordisk Panorama), Scotland (Scottish Documentary Institute), and the U.S.A. (Independent Filmmaker Project aka IFP). Hot Docs also welcomes delegates Brown Girls Doc Mafia, an international film collective comprised of over 1800 women and non-binary filmmakers and industry representatives of colour. Canadian delegations will include representatives from Quebec (SODEC, with support from RIDM), Atlantic Canada (Lunenburg Doc Fest), and the Yukon (Screen Production Yukon Association).

“Hot Docs is very excited to welcome these esteemed delegations to the Festival this year,” said Stephanie McArthur, industry programs manager for Hot Docs, in a statement from the festival. “It’s so pleasing to see that Hot Docs is considered by so many of the industry’s top talent as an essential conference and market to attend.”

During the festival, filmmakers and industry peers will have the opportunity to network with delegates offering expertise in a range of documentary roles including production, broadcasting, and distribution. The delegations represent a diversity of documentary culture to offer support for filmmakers pursuing topics in political documentary, arts and culture, and social issues, among others. In addition to networking events, parties, feedback sessions, and other opportunities to develop ideas and strategies for documentary, the Hot Docs Industry events include the centrepiece of the Hot Docs Forum, which runs from Tuesday, April 30 to Wednesday, May 1 and allows pre-selected filmmakers to pitch their projects to over 200 industry delegates.

This year’s Hot Docs runs April 25 to May 5.
