Hot Docs 2016 Award Winners

Hot Docs announced the recipients of the jury prizes last night. Twelve awards dished out over $67 000 in prizes. The final prize of the Audience Award will be announced following the festival.

The winners are as follows:

Best Canadian Feature Documentary Award:KONELĪNE: our land beautiful – directed by Nettie Wild and produced by Betsy Carson

Special Jury Prize – Canadian Feature Documentary:The Prison in Twelve Landscapes – directed and produced by Brett Story

The jury also acknowledges Ali Kazimi’s Random Acts of Legacy with an honourable mention.

The Emerging Canadian Filmmaker Award:Living with Giants – Sébastien Rist and Aude Leroux-Lévesque

Best International Feature Documentary Award:Brothers – directed by Aslaug Holm and produced by Tore Buvarp; Norway

Special Jury Prize – International Feature DocumentaryGod Knows Where I Am – directed by Todd Wider, Jedd Wider; and produced by Brian Ariotti, Todd Wider, Jedd Wider; USA

Emerging International Filmmaker Award:The Islands and the Whales – Mike Day (Norway/UK)

Best Mid-Length Documentary:Dugma: The Button – directed by Paul S. Refsda and produced by Ingvil Giske; Norway

The jury also acknowledges Aaron Schock’s La Laguna (USA/Mexico) with an honourable mention.

Best Short Documentary Award:The Shining Star of Losers Everywhere – directed by Mickey Duzyj and produced by Mona Panchal; USA

The jury also acknowledged Kristy Guevara-Flanagan’s What Happened to Her (USA) with an honourable mention.
