‘Green Blood’ Leads Hot Docs Audience Award Rankings

Green Blood leads today’s update of the Hot Docs Audience Award rankings

By Pat Mullen

Hot Docs is keeping with the tradition of updating the Audience Award races as the festival progresses. Green Blood sits atop the list as of the June 1st update of audience favourites. The French doc-series directed by Jules Giraudat, Arthur Bouvart, and Alexis Marant offers an international portrait of investigative journalism and the challenges reporters face as the integrity of news media is under attack worldwide. Green Blood is one of three selections screening online as part of Hot Docs’ new Deep Dive program devoted to episodic storytelling.

On the Canadian side, Lulu Wei’s There’s No Place Like This Place, Anyplace (profiled in the new issue of POV) leads the race for the Rogers Audience Award with a story that is close to home for Hot Docs audiences. There’s No Place chronicles the final days of iconic department store Honest Ed’s and the growing gentrification of Toronto. The film is in the top ten for the overall audience favourites and leads the list of Canadian features in contention for the Rogers Audience Award.

As previously announced, this year’s Rogers Audience Award will share the wealth of the annual $50,000 prize among the top five Canadian features. All viewers at Hot Docs’ online festival receive one vote per streaming purchase, similar to how attendees received one vote per ticket in previous years. Voting remains open until end of day on June 6.
