Genie winner Velcrow Ripper (SacredScared, Bones of the Forest) returns with Metamorphosis, a “poem for peace” on the fate of the Earth. Ripper and Nova Ami, making her feature directorial debut after producing docs like Occupy Love, offer a visually compelling essay on climate change that tours the globe to see how humans adapt to the biggest threat to the planet. Beyond the gloomy prognosis, Metamorphosis finds new acts of creation that offer hope for the future. The film is a co-production between Ripper and Ami’s Transparent Film, Lauren Grant of Clique Pictures (Take a Walk on the Wild Side), and Bonnie Thompson and David Christensen of the NFB.

Metamorphosis has its world premiere at Santa Barbara tomorrow and will hit Canadian festivals soon. The NFB released the first clips and trailer ahead of the film’s premiere. Just look at those images!

Synopsis: Nova Ami and Velcrow Ripper’s film Metamorphosis takes the pulse of our Earth and bears witness to a moment of profound change: the loss of one world, and the birth of another. Metamorphosis captures the true scale of the global environmental crisis. Forest fires consume communities, species vanish, and entire ecosystems collapse. Economic growth, tied to increased speed of resource extraction, has created a machine with the capacity to destroy all life. But this crisis is also an opportunity for transformation. Through a tidal flow of stunning images, Metamorphosis carves a path from the present to the future, and offers a bold new vision for humanity and the world.
