FIN: Atlantic International Film Festival Announces Docs

Long Time Running opens FIN: Atlantic International Film Festival

By Pat Mullen

FIN, the newly renamed Atlantic International Film Festival, released its line-up last week. The programme offers an impressive number of documentaries, including the opening night gala selection of the Tragically Hip doc Long Time Running by Jennifer Baichwal and Nick de Pencier. FIN also screens Baichwal’s Manufactured Landscapes as part of its Telefilm 50 programme.

Speaking of the big 5-0, FIN brings Alanis Obomsawin’s fiftieth film, Our People Will Be Healed to the east coast, along with other doc masters like Agnès Varda (Faces Places) and Ai Weiwei (The Human Flow). Obomsawin leads a strong Canadian contingent of documentary programming at FIN. Other Canadian docs at the festival include A Better Man, Mermaids, The Road Forward, The Stairs, and State of Exception. Films from Atlantic Canada include Play Your Gender, Zachary Richard, Cajun Heart, Beerocracy, In the Waves, Modified, and Only 78.
