Vancouver’s DOXA Documentary Festival plans to toast a doc luminary on Friday, June 26 with a salute to Peter Wintonick. The festival announced a special Zoom event to honour the late filmmaker, writer, and Canada’s “documentary ambassador” with a virtual toast. Attendees are welcome to gather at a distance and share their best memories of Wintonick.

This year’s DOXA festival, which is taking place online due to COVID precautions, is paying tribute to Wintonick as well by spotlighting three of his films Cinéma Vérité: Defining the Moment, Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media (directed with Mark Achbar), and A Rustling of Leaves (directed by Nettie Wild and edited by Wintonick) in a special sidebar. Wintopia, a portrait of Wintonick’s lifelong search for utopia directed by his daughter Mira Burt-Wintonick, is also screening at the festival and was DOXA’s selection for the opening night slot.

Doc fans can attend the virtual toast by registering on Zoom.

DOXA runs through June 26.
