It was a busy week on the awards front in Canada. The Canadian Cinema Editors Awards kicked off mid-week with Unarmed Verses, Prince’s Tale, and The Wrestlers picking up doc honours. The award capped off a year-long run for Unarmed Verses while Prince’s Tale continues to show legs after scooping the jury award for Best Canadian Short and the audience award for Best Short at Hot Docs earlier this year.

At Vancouver’s Leo Awards, The Road Forward dominated the doc field with five awards including Best Feature. (Randomly, the one award the doc-musical missed was for score.) Over in Quebec, Carlo Guillermo Proto’s Resurrecting Hassan took the feature documentary prize at the Prix Iris and brought the film full circle after an award-winning debut at RIDM in 2016. NFB doc Love, Scott, finally, took the prize for Best Canadian Feature at Toronto’s Inside Out fest.
