Docs Screening in Canada This Week (Mar. 4 - 10)

Song of Lahore
Films We Like

By Pat Mullen

If filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy inspired doc fans with her Oscar win for the short film A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness, then the non-fiction crowd will be happy to hear that the Academy Award winner has a new film, Song of Lahore, opening this week. The film offers a different turn for the filmmaker as it follows a troupe of classical musicians as they travel from Pakistan to New York for a performance. No other new films open this week, but Canuck hit The Messenger has doc fans a-twitter as it gets a second week in Toronto and expands to new cities. Michael Moore’s Where to Invade Next, meanwhile, plants its flag at Ottawa’s ByTowne Cinema. After trying their popcorn, Moore will see that the secret to world peace has been in Canada all along.
