Docs Screening in Canada This Week (Feb. 5 - 11)

Janis: Little Girl Blue

By Pat Mullen

There’s a lot of overdue debate about diversity and inclusion finally happening in the film industry. Doc fans can support the cause for better representation by buying tickets to some of the films hitting theatres this week’s. Amy Berg’s strong film Janis: Little Girl Blue offers a powerful example of a female filmmaker telling the story of a woman’s life with sensitivity and care. Meanwhile, the Swedish film Nice People depicts racial tensions in a small town and couldn’t be more timely following the recent controversy. Ditto last year’s TIFF People’s Choice Award winner Beats of the Antonov, which screens in Regina this upcoming week and shows audiences the richness that diversity brings to the world.
