Docs Screening in Canada This Week (Feb. 19 - 25)

Guantanamo’s Child: Omar Khadr

By Pat Mullen

There’s just one week left to catch up on the Oscar nominees for Best Documentary! Readers will be glad to know that most of the nominees, except for The Look of Silence, are just a Netflix click away, but POV fans who like their movies on the big screen will be even happier to know that the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema has all five contenders playing this week. Who will win Best Documentary Feature? We’ll let you know this weekend! (And be sure to give us your own picks!)

For anyone whose Oscar ballot is already checked off, this week has a handful of Canadian films screening around the country. Canada’s Top Ten selection Guantanamo’s Child: Omar Khadr gets a theatrical run, while the Kingston Canadian Film Festival kicks off Thursday with Driving with Selvi. (You can also enter to win tickets to see After the Last River at KCFF.) Alternatively, anyone done with the Oscars can start watching the Canadian Screen Award nominees, including The Messenger, which screens at the Wakefield Film Festival this weekend ahead of its theatrical run.
