Lo and behold, the new Werner Herzog movie is going viral! Herzog’s Lo and Behold, Reveries of the Connected World expands to more cities this week. In the spirit of the doc, we’ve offered an Internet-friendly list of reasons why the new ‘zog is the director’s best doc since Grizzly Man. There’s also ‘print-style’ review of the film from Hot Docs.

Also opening this week is the Hot Docs tear-jerker Gleason. This inspiring doc chronicles the latest chapter in the life of former NFL star Steve Gleason and his family as he battles ALS while witnessing the birth of his first son. This undeniably moving doc from Clay Tweel is a powerful journey.

Joining the list of new releases is the doc portrait Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise, which profiles the late poet and civil rights activist. The film, which is the first feature-length documentary about Angelou, opens theatrically in Toronto after a successful run on the festival circuit that included stops at Sundance, Full Frame, and DOXA.

Canadian films still playing include How to Build a Time Machine, I am the Blues, Parfaites, and When Elephants Were Young, while Brett Story’s Land of Destiny gets a special screening in Toronto, Magnus Isaacsson’s Granny Power hits Cinema Politica in Regina and a trio of Canuck docs hit the Vancouver Queer Film Festival.
