POV writers (and hopefully readers!) are gearing up for Hot Docs this coming week! (Check out their website for the schedule, which has far too many films to list here.) Doc fans looking for some warm-up runs heading into the festival may enjoy a bevvy of Canadian non-fiction films this week with new Canadian docs screening such as Larry Weinstein’s The Devil’s Horn and Karen Collins’ Beep: A Documentary History of Game Sound hitting screens, while favourites from the Kingston Canadian Film Festival return to The Screening Room.

One particularly notable premiere brings a special guest to the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema before the big festival: Michaëlle Jean will be on hand for an extended Q&A with director Jean-Daniel Lafond for the new NFB doc Michaëlle Jean, A Woman of Purpose on Friday night. Also expected to attend the screening are Hot Docs president Chris McDonald, and Government Film Commissioner and NFB Chairperson Claude Joli-Coeur. The film comes to NFB.ca on May 8 with additional broadcasts and community screenings rolling out in the coming days. Stretch your muscles before Hot Docs!
