Docs Opening in Canada this Week (May 19 - May 25)

Vancouver: No Fixed Address

By Pat Mullen

It’s a busy week for documentaries thanks to the long weekend, but the only new doc opening for Victoria Day is Charles Wilkinson’s Vancouver: No Fixed Address. The film, which recently debuted to positive responses at Hot Docs and DOXA, sees the Haida Gwaii: On the Edge of the World director turn his gaze to another question of environmental concern: the changing landscapes of cities and the implications for those who dwell within them. The rapid condofication of cities isn’t exclusive to Vancouver, but the beautiful west coast metropolis is seeing some of the worst of it. “It became absolutely necessary to show people what’s at stake,” says Wilkinson in a recent interview with POV. “Because what’s at stake is the most beautiful city in the world, and it’s becoming less beautiful every day.” Read more about Vancouver: No Fixed Address.

This week sees numerous holdovers and expansions of hot docs including, but not limited to, Risk, Call of the Forest, I am Bolt and Obit.
