Docs Opening in Canada this Week (March 24-30)

By Pat Mullen

It’s a sleepy week on the doc front. No new openers hit the screens, so doc fans have the chance to catch up on some of the non-fiction films they missed as they enjoy second runs and encore screenings. Cat doc Kedi continues to make good use of its nine lives as it expands to new locations and enjoys holdovers in theatres frequented by cat people. Canadian docs The Gardener, Angry Inuk, Call of the Forest and Ice Guardians add an extra screen in new venues, too, and extend their runs.

Fewer theatrical openings, though, mean that more festivals are popping up. Among the new festivals with a doc focus include Toronto Banff Film Festival, Water Docs and the Human Rights Watch Film Festival, which includes Girl Unbound, Black Code and Alanis Obomsawin’s We Can’t Make the Same Mistake Twice.
