Docs Opening in Canada this Week (Mar. 2-8)

Knife Skills screens as part of the Oscar short docs

By Pat Mullen

There isn’t much on the new release front documentary-wise this weekend, so take the chance to cram in as many of the Oscar nominees as you can. A few more theatres around Canada screen the short docs this week and doc fans in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Vancouver can see one of the finest groups of nominees the Academy offered this year. From the poignant and insightful Heaven is a Traffic Jam on the 405 to the frontrunner Edith+Eddie and the culinary catharsis of Knife Skills, these films are worth a look regardless of whether they win Sunday night. Read the POV review of the Oscar short docs here!

Doc Soup caters to culinary cravings this week with the Canadian premiere Michelin Stars – Tales from the Kitchen. This foodie flick from Danish director Rasmus Dinesen interviews master chefs such as lain Ducasse, Daniel Humm, René Redzepi, Andoni Aduriz and Yoshihiro Narisawa to see how they earned and maintained the coveted stars of excellence in their kitchens. Michelin Stars shows that there’s no recipe for success, but perhaps some common ingredients. Check back soon for the POV review of Michelin Stars!
