Docs Opening in Canada this Week (Feb. 1-7)

Wonders of the Sea

By Pat Mullen

Bust out your 3D glasses and dive into the marvels of cinematic splendor with Wonders of the Sea. This visually stunning odyssey through the Pacific Ocean provides eye-popping looks at some of the many colourful fish and coral reefs beneath the surface. Narrated and produced by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wonders of the Sea gives audiences a chance to appreciate an entire world of natural life they might often take for granted. Although the film fits well within a formula of familiar nature docs, it’s arguably the most eye-catching fish in the sea. Read the POV review of Wonders of the Sea here.

History buffs and shutterbugs will enjoy a snapshot of the past in The Last Resort. The doc highlights the photography of Andy Sweet and Gary Monroe, who took candid portraits of the Jewish beach dwellers who made Miami Beach their vacation destination in the 1970s. “ The film is at once a tale of two artists and a tale of a community at one point in time, both dynamic and unsustainable,” writes Tara Hakim in our review of the film. “The Last Resort encapsulates a short-lived vibrant community and era that is all gone now.” Read the POV review of The Last Resort here.
