The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences held its annual lunch event for current Oscar nominees. Among the Oscar class of 2015/2016 present were filmmakers Evgeney Afineevsky (Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight For Freedom), Liz Garbus (What Happened, Miss Simone?), and singer Lady Gaga, who holds the coolest nomination yet for documentary for her song ‘Til It Happens to You’ from The Hunting Ground. (The last time a doc song won at the Oscars was for Melissa Ethridge’s ‘I Need to Wake Up’ from An Inconvenient Truth.) Several of the nominees took a break from noshing on Academy noms to share advice and answer questions from fans. Here’s what the documentary nominees had to say at yesterday’s event (we’ll add more videos as they surface):

Director Evgeny Afineevsky, Winter on Fire: Ukraine’s Fight For Freedom (Best Documentary Feature nominee)

Direct Liz Garbus and producers Amy Hobby and Justin Wilkes, What Happened, Miss Simone? (Best Documentary Feature nominee)

Composers Lady Gaga and Diane Warren, The Hunting Ground (Best Original Song nominee ‘Til It Happens to You’)
